Some AI Advice

I have been thinking about AI art again. What started my thinking about it was seeing some videos on YouTube about the role of AI art in designing books. I still do not feel very comfortable about using AI art in or on any product that I would offer for sale. The AI art generator that I use allows commercial use of the images. Still I think there is a lot to learn in the realm of copyright and art work usage. The last thing I want to do is claim someone else’s art work as my own.

Recently one of my great-nieces was awarded a prize in an art competition. I recognize my bias, but I believe she is a very intelligent and talented young woman in so many ways. I sent her mother, my niece, the link to this site in case either of them or both wanted to visit. When I remembered the AI Art galleries on the website, I couldn’t help but wonder what my great-niece’s response would be. The temptation would be to embrace this technology fully, thinking about the very cool art that can be produced through artificial intelligence.

My advice to my great-niece would be to remain open to technology, but also to develop her artistic talent in a more traditional way. Learn to draw. Study composition. Become versed in color theory. Learn the elements of design. Keep a sketchbook and draw everything! People, buildings, animals, room interiors, objects… everything! Practice different kinds of drawing and using various art media. There will be time later for doing all the AI you want. It is likely here to stay.
