Hoping and Praying

Today I am hoping and praying that my insurance appeal is approved. I had thought that the likely date for my last day covered by insurance here would be December 7th. I was wrong. I found out yesterday that it is Monday, December 5th. Thus, within an hour and a half of receiving the infamous Notice of Medicare Non-Coverage, I filed an immediate first level appeal with Kepro. The medical doctor at Kepro will review my medical record and make a decision one way or another as to my being able to be discharged to go home. If I lose the appeal, I will be able to stay in the facility until the morning of the 6th. They will feed me breakfast, help me get dressed and packed, and then I will have to leave after that as soon as possible. If my insurance approves the use of an ambulance, I will go home on a stretcher via ambulance on the 6th.

If the doctor at Kepro believes that my discharge would be premature, then I will win the appeal and can stay for a few more days. The number of extra days could be one to several, but most likely seven days or fewer. I hope I win! For one thing, I believe I truly need the extra time here to build up my strength and endurance. The therapists here are excellent, and the two gyms contain state-of-the-art equipment. I could not get this kind of therapy through home health care. My right knee and leg have been hurting a lot lately. I would rather go home when I am stronger and my pain is either gone or at least lessened.

Another reason though (this one was not mentioned by me in the appeal :) ) is that I want to enjoy some of the Christmas festivities. Next Monday night the Girl Scouts are supposed to come down the halls singing Christmas carols. I remember when I heard them caroling the first time I spent Christmas here back in 2019. It was just a little thing for them to have done, but it meant so much to see those fine young ladies and to hear those familiar Christmas songs. Also I hope to be able to take some photos of the Christmas decorations here. They have a manger scene and several decorated trees.

I have had my cell phone with me most of the day except when I was doing occupational therapy in the gym this morning. I am waiting for that Kepro call. If I don’t hear within the next couple of hours, it will likely be tomorrow that I will hear.

Tonight I hope to upload one or two more images to RedBubble and then work on some marketing.

Cheers and blessings!
