It’s almost Christmas!

Sometimes Guy and I look at one another and just ask, “Where did the time go?” It seems that the older we become, the faster time seems to move. When we were children, it took forever for Christmas to get here. Now in January, you blink once or twice, and it’s November heading for December.

Yesterday I had the first eye exam that I have had since my ischemic stroke in January 2022. I had the stroke on the very day that my cataract surgeon “released” me from the surgeries and gave me my prescription for my new glasses. Instead of getting the glasses, however, I went to to the hospital and then skilled rehab and the rest is history. I never did get the glasses but “made do” with a pair of reading glasses for reading and computer work. I need the new glasses, however, because even though my long distance vision has significantly improved, I have astigmatism that needs correction. So before paying out money for the glasses, I decided to get another exam and a new eyeglass prescription, if need be. I wasn’t sure what damage to my vision the stroke may have done. I had a good exam for the glasses, and it looks as if my vision in my right eye with the new glasses will be either 20/20 or 20/25. My left eye has always been my worst eye. I have amblyopia (“lazy eye”) so I really don’t use it fully. The doctor also told me I have scar tissue resulting from the cataract surgery. The scar tissue may be removed by a laser technique. For now, however, I will wait until later on to have the surgery. Guy plans to take me to Sam’s Club tomorrow to pick out my new frames and get the prescription filled. I am looking forward to having sharper vision soon!

My only other news is that I will be having MOHS surgery sometime soon for a skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma) that is on my face. This is the first time I have ever had a skin cancer, but there is a strong history of it in my birth family. From what I hear, the surgery really won’t be that big of a deal.

In the art realm, there is really nothing to say or post. I have spent whatever creative time I have had in November and December working on designs for some print on demand products for Christmas. Most of these were for gifts… so I hope my family likes them!!! :) Below is the stocking I sent to my sister Julie.

Stocking for Julie

I am not doing much decorating this year. I bought a small tabletop tree with a gold base and white lights (the tree is green) and I will be decorating that soon. I have a Fontanini nativity figurine with the Virgin Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus, which is on display. There is a lighted Christmas wreath in our great room. I am making a simple garland with twine and gingerbread men ornaments. Even though our Christmas will be very scaled down, we plan to read the Christmas story from the Bible (Luke and Matthew), look at some Christmasy TV shows, drink egg nog and munch on candy and decorated cookies. I hope to watch It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf, A Christmas Story, and the compilation of Perry Como’s Christmas specials that Guy gave me one year. My mobility has been affected, but we can still celebrate Christmas. Happy Birthday, Jesus!
